From projects in Xadhadhan and Bunhodle which include two clinics, a school, and an agriculture project that provides well-drilling, water storage, and irrigation projects, Alalusi Foundation is working to make a difference.

Medical Relief

In the almost decade of supporting programs in Somalia, the Alalusi Foundation has strived to make the most impact with targeted aid. From shipping a full container load of medical equipment and supplies to the 450-bed Hawa Abdi Foundation Hospital near Mogadishu to funding staff and assisting with long-term development support in a variety of clinics, we are devoted to the current need while keeping a long-term goal in mind.

Making the work all the more urgent and difficult is the fact that many of the beneficiaries are nomads and come from distant places for treatment of cholera and malnutrition.

The Foundation has also sent equipment, supplies, and funding for staff to a rural clinic in Xhadhadhan, which provides maternity care and basic medical care, as well as basic education, to a population which has never previously had any healthcare facility.

Into 2018, the Xadhadhan clinic continues to provide basic medical services, nutrition screening, prenatal care, delivery, and postpartum care as well as training for midwives. Just in the last quarter, nearly 900 people were treated. Besides medical treatment, members of the community are given instruction on basic hygiene and disease prevention.

Education

Alalusi Foundation provided support for basic education to schools in Somalia at Hawa Abdi Foundation Refugee Village near Mogadishu. Alalusi Foundation is currently providing ongoing support to the Gargaar Centre at Xhadhadhan in the northern Somaliland province.

The Xadhadhan School Project is providing schooling to high-school level for girls and boys, and vocational training to a growing number of women at Xadhadhan and Buhoodle. In addition to education, the students receive meals, a building block toward successful learning.

Other Projects

The Community Food Program operates through the local mosque, and provides food for the students families, villagers, and nomads.

Drought Affected People Food Program was instituted in the period of drought earlier this year. The severe drought experienced at the beginning of the year caused huge losses of livestock, worsening the impoverished state of the community members. Due to the drought, the people lost 80% of their animals, leaving some of the nomadic people settled in the village with no income.

The Community Agriculture Project grows crops to support the Food Programs. The Community Agriculture Project continues, despite the extreme drought that has impacted the region, and the water well and infrastructure project has been providing water to the whole community.

The whole community has benefitted from this effort, especially those who were affected by the drought, as well as children and elderly people.
