Providing childcare supplies
Malnutrition is rampant in Gaza and, as in all armed conflicts, children bear the burden most of all.
As stated by community assistance managers in Gaza, important food items and supplies in great need include:
** Infant milk: Mothers face a major problem in obtaining it, and even if it is available, it is expensive.
** Nutritional supplements for children: While all children in Gaza face malnutrition, nutritional supplements (which are vitamin-fortified peanut butter powder) are an important food item for them in light of the lack of food security.
These supplements enter Gaza via trucks on behalf of international relief organizations. But these trucks are often looted, and the supplements are sold in the markets at prices beyond the purchasing power of most families.
** Chickpeas, lentils, and rice: Chickpeas are widely used today to prepare falafel, a staple food for families unable to afford rice and lentils. Lentils and rice are also very important, as mothers grind the rice and lentils and use them as a substitute for flour to make bread. Although the resulting bread is poor quality, it remains vital to combat famine.
This is also a video documenting the distribution of canned milk to children and infants in Gaza.
This project has been a relief to these grieving and impoverished families.
Praise be to God, we were able to provide milk, despite its extreme scarcity.
Fifty families have benefited from it. We also distributed diapers to some of these families.
In addition to purchasing and distributing free of charge these supplies to families with infants, your generous contributions have gone toward expanding greatly our vegetable campaign, which was posted about earlier.
